Bacaro Saigon
Translating Venetian wine culture into a bar concept
Challenge
The challenge was to create a distinctive identity for an Italian–Vietnamese cocktail and wine bar set in the vibrant heart of Saigon, District 1. The objective was to merge Venetian bacaro culture with Vietnamese street-food energy while avoiding clichés, building an authentic visual narrative rooted in cultural references, materials, and historical craft.
The design strategy began with research into architectural and artistic traditions of both Venice and historic Saigon. Supporting visuals reference cathedral floors from San Marco, Murano, and Burano, reinterpreted into contemporary patterns that maintain heritage appeal without appearing ornamental.

Outcome
The logo was crafted by hand using cut-out pieces of black paper, drawing from Byzantine mosaic inscriptions — an analogue method that echoes the geometric precision and tactile irregularity of ancient mosaic tiles.
The palette incorporates desaturated greens, warm ochres, and weathered neutrals inspired by shutters, tiles, and the patina of the city’s historic buildings.
The result is a cohesive identity that positions the venue as a cross-cultural hospitality concept with warm, tactile, and sophisticated visual storytelling.
